Synthesis Paper Assignment: Due August 13, 2020
This assignment requires that you write an analysis paper with that combines two elements of analysis and then blend them or compare them, thereby creating a new analysis of the two: a synthesis. You have already written two analysis papers. You may build on what you have previously written, or write about another dimension of identity, culture, and diversity. In other words, you couldsynthesize papers one and two to create a working concept of integrating diversity and identity in the workplace or at school.You are to write a four page, double-spaced paper using Chicago Manual of Style, MLA, APA or what your discipline requires for citations and works cited. Use material from the textbooks and from presenters in class. You will need to augment this with other material from on-line or library research, but this is not intended to be a research paper, so do not do too much of that work. There is an extensive resource list at the end of the Johnson book. The library holds much material that you could use and you could tap into other resources such as magazines and newspapers. You should use at least2 or 3 sources.Begin with an opening paragraph that emphasizes your thesis. If you choose to write, for example, that diversity in the U.S. strengthens businesses in America, then include material to back your view. You could, conversely, argue that each time the U.S. becomes more tolerant of diversity, then a backlash follows, such as homophobia since the Matthew Shepard legislation. (See the Telegraph-Herald, Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018 issue) or you could write that the ADA has successfully addressed the issues facing Americans with disabilities and have now been fully integrated into society. Remember that plagiarism is prohibited and the consequences for plagiarism can be severe. Be original and use your own ideas, express yourself and add what you think.Include a bibliography or works cited page, using Chicago Style, MLA, APA or whichever format you chose.
