final paper
The emperors and Rome The city of Rome was slowly but radically transformed over the 250 years between the reigns of Augustus and the Severans. The emperors (re)built numerous structures to advertise their extraordinary position within Roman society, advertising their wealth, prestige, benevolence/generosity, and leadership. Briefly identify and describe eight monuments, structures, or sites in Rome that exemplify these imperial ideals using one example from each of the following eight broad categories: (1) civic structures, (2) commemorative monuments, (3) entertainment venues, (4) funerary monuments, (5) leisure venues, (6) religious structures, (7) sculpted likenesses, and (8) utilities. For each example, indicate who (re)built it, what use/function/purpose it served (or type of structure it was), when it was built (which century, and early/middle/late), and where it was located in the city (hill or area like the Campus Martius, Imperial Forums, etc.), and then explain how it advertised or reflected the emperors greatness.
