Respond by Day 5 to a colleague who chose a different political strategy than you. Offer a supportive insight based on your own experience as a social worker and/or policy advocate

Both Tiffani Bradley and Susanna face circumstances that require political advocacy on behalf of the social worker assigned to their case. Both cases present gaps in service needs to populations facing sexual exploitation, slavery, and various protective and supportive resources. In the case of Tiffani, though policy has deemed her a victim as opposed to criminal in the views of the criminal justice system, she remains in the fear of abuse and retaliation from her pimp, John T. She states He’s going to be suspicious that he got arrested the same time that I got let out. He’s going to think that I snitched on him, but I didn’t. Her social worker responds, We should think about getting you some police protection. No sense taking any chances (Plummer, Makris, & Brocksen, 2014)
Advocacy in both cases will require various problem solving and political strategizing on the community and legislative levels in order to ensure the safety and best interest of the client. Utilizing media outlets and campaigns can bring awareness to legislators through the form of letter writing and appealing to mass audiences. Similarly, lobbying legislators directly to gain support for proposals and corresponding bills that would support clients such as Susanna and Tiffani may prove beneficial in making political headway (Jansson, 2018).
Ultimately, social advocates should gain meaningful and advantageous relationships with legislators who also stand to gain through a united effort for change. Gaining attention through mass media, awareness-promoting campaigns, direct lobbying, and persuasive communication strategies can best serve to inform pertinent audiences. These strategies lend to effective policy advocacy and could directly impact clients such as Tiffani and Susanna in securing needed services and resources.

RE: Discussion – Week 9
COLLAPSE
Jansson (2018) depicts the strength behind having support from organizations that support a particular political movement, party, or candidate. This comes down to stronger together or strength in numbers; specifically for Susana it would be beneficial to have support from larger organizations as she will gain a sense of confidence and feel protected.
I would use this strategy to gain support for individuals to feel as if they are not stigmatized and they are still a whole person; by having additional support from strong leaders it will help individuals come out and leave the unsafe lifestyles. In addition this strategy will bring in revenue for monetary support. The situation the Bradley family is facing is very sensitive as Susana has been through trauma and is worried about her safety and what is to come in her future, this is important to consider when proposing any strategies as even though they are meant to be progressive, working towards good they can still affect Susana negatively. In the video clip presented by Laureate Education (2013) we see that the individual is not even showing physical signs of relief because she is still worried about her pimp and if she is protected against him. This is important to take into consideration as it is a situation/problem I feel is worthy to address not only for this particular case but for all minors who are experiencing or have experienced what Susana has.
