In order to understand the scale of veteran unemployment and homelessness, it is necessary to look at numbers almost constantly. For this reason, visuals such as tables and charts that document the statistics needed to understand, makes the most sense. I hope it is okay to include this, but here is a look into some numbers I have included in my project one. I plan to turn this data into a chart going forward in project two:
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Developments Point-In-Time Count showed that in 2018, there were approximately 38,000 homeless veterans in the United States (Annual Homeless Assessment Report (AHAR) by State, 2018). According to the White House, approximately 553,000 people were homeless at the beginning of 2018 (The State of Homelessness in America, 2019, p. 10). Based on these numbers, in 2018, approximately 6.9% of Americas homeless population had some history in the military.

In my experience, the Week 5 Discussion normally has a slow start. That’s okay, I know the first project is due this week and that requires a lot of focus. Remember to check out the feedback I left on your draft submitted last week. For many, much more work is needed for the final draft of Project One, so it’s a great idea to get started on that as early as possible. As for this discussion thread, I can’t wait to read more of what everyone has to say! Let’s get started!
