reflection and a response
Resilience_1 Discussion Forum
This week is an R and R week. You submit both a reflection and a response to your Group Discussion Forum for the group to read. For detailed description and the marking guide click HERE
BY Tuesday 09:00 (basically, a Monday night deadline with some padding):
REFLECTIONS
You are required to write and post a short (no more than 250 words) reflection by Tuesday at 9 AM. Your post will receive a grade out of 100 (50% for references and applicability to course content, 50% for clarity), which will be weighted as 2.5% of your overall grade. Each section’s forum will be worth 5% (2.5% for your initial reflection and 2.5% for your responses).

Please also remember the policies about late assignments written in your course outline.
Guidelines:
Reference and critically engage with the content from the video lecture and reading assigned this week
It is not enough to restate what has been written about or stated in the lecture. To get started, you can consider the learning objectives at the beginning of the Lesson, and the reflection questions that frequently appear at the beginning and end of the lecture, as well as what questions remain for you about the content.
It is a good idea to write and save your post in a Word document before pasting it into cuLearn, in case you lose connection to cuLearn while composing.
RESPONSES Guidelines:
BY THURSDAY at 9 AM:
You are required to write and post a short (no more than 250 words) response to one or more of your classmates’ posts by Thursday at 9 am. Your post will receive a grade out of 100 (50% for references and applicability to course content, 50% for clarity), which will be weighted as 2.5% of your overall grade. Each section’s forum will be worth 5% (2.5% for your initial reflection and 2.5% for your responses).
When we say Response paper the idea is to RESPOND to your colleagues’ postings.
Let’s see what a dictionary says about the word RESPOND The Collins Dictionary https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/respond writes: “(rspnd )1. verb
When you respond to something that is done or said, you react to it by doing or saying something yourself.
Synonyms: answer, return, reply, come back More Synonyms of respond”
The idea of the responses is to have a conversation if possible — to relate to each other (think of what we are learning in the lectures about Indigenous ideas of relationality and learning from everything around us). Also, we can’t have tutorials and discuss things in person, so we are trying to do something at least a bit interactive.
So, the idea is to check out the reflections of your colleagues in your group and find something that you can respond to (how do you react to what they say?). Responses can be many things. Think of a conversation in person. Someone says something and you respond/react in many ways. You can refer to what they say and add something, or take on a connected point and elaborate. Does someone bring up a point that interests you? Do they ask a question you also have? Do you agree of disagree? Do they suggest something you also have ideas about? Are they struggling to understand specific things you are also trying to understand? Have you seen a video or image lately that is relevant? You can post it (with a citation of the source). The focus, of course, should be the Lesson this week and where it may take you. There’s a lot to think about…..
Finally, one main point of this course is for us all to learn to talk in an informed and respectful way about Indigenous issues. So remember, even if you disagree, be respectful!
