For this first essay assignment I am asking you to analyze the text of your own life experience and produce a 4-6 page personal essay that leads the reader to an essential truth about you and a lesson learned at some point in your life. Follow the path of our readings, journals and discussions on the aspects of personal narrative that tells a story and leads to insight/lesson gained through experience perhaps a story that may be informed by family, culture and societal influences and expectations; these are just a few ideas; your essay should be double-spaced, in Times 12 font and include an appropriate heading see model paper.

Optional Review of Introduction/Thesis and Organization of Paper: From July 17 – July 24 by 8:00PM via Canvas Assignment Drop
Final draft due: July 27, Monday by 11:59PM and submitted via Canvas.
Some Questions to Consider:
Have you provided sufficient background to make your story clear to the reader?
Have you introduced in a way that makes your reader curious and anxious to read on?
Have you divided the parts of your narrative into sensible paragraphing?
Does each segment of the narrative balance with the rest of the essay? For example, is your introduction rushed? Is your conclusion sufficiently reflective of how you really feel about the events you narrate and the lesson(s) you learned?
Did you provide vivid description throughout so that your reader can be there?
Have you revised so that YOU like the essayits pace, its rhythm, its tone? Have you edited for distracting errors?
Have you used the ample resources, including the Narrative Structure template resource in Module 3 on Canvas?
