Pearl Harbor (1941)
Review the page in this module titled “Website Analysis Assignment Introduction” before beginning your work. This project is due by the end of Module 11. You are expected to begin your work in this module.
Evaluate three historical websites for validity and then present your findings in a written essay. Since most background research conducted by online college students is done over the internet, it is imperative to develop a critical eye for distinguishing legitimate sources of information from dubious ones.
First, select any U.S. history topic of interest to you that corresponds with a time period or event covered during the semester. Avoid wide-ranging themes by narrowing down to a more specific subject. If you are considering the U.S. Civil War, for example, you might want to limit your focus to something like the Battle of Antietam or President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.
Next, conduct an online search to find three website sources that contain information related to your subject, and judiciously examine them for academic legitimacy. Please do not use Wikipedia or other encyclopedias and dictionaries, although they may be convenient sources of straightforward information.
Each of the three website reviews should be composed of one or two substantial paragraphs that explain your analysis process, discoveries, and final verdict. Your essay should also include brief introduction and conclusion paragraphs.
The three websites should be listed at the end of your essay in a Works Cited page that is formatted to MLA guidelines.
**My question to the Professor just to make sure I got the assignment correctly***
“I just wanted to double-check with you to make sure I understand this correctly.
You want us to find 3 good websites that relate to our topic of choice that interests us that we covered already in class. You would then like us to write about what we learned from the websites about our topic of choice. From here are we supposed to then explain to you why we think the three websites we chose are historically accurate and can be trusted?
I apologize for not understanding, I am just a bit confused about if we are writing about the academic legitimacy of the websites or actual research on the topic that interests us.
**Professor replies***
“No apology needed, all questions are legitimate. You assignment is more on the legitimacy of the three web sites, but you can allude to the content also. And your topic could also be from subject areas we have not yet covered (from the 1940-1980 time period).”
