Your Assignment
Create a Twitter account: https://twitter.com/i/flow/signup (Links to an external site.)
As you create a Twitter account, keep in mind that you are creating a personal/professional brand for yourself. For this assignment, your Twitter account will serve as your professional face to your peers, colleagues, and other professionals nationwide and globally.
Follow 10 Nursing and/or Healthcare Twitter Users
When you created your account, you started off by following 3 people with like interests. Twitter is all about following- people, associations, businesses, experts. If you click on the profile of one of the users you follow, you will see a list of users they follow and a list of users who follow them. Theres a good chance you will find someone interesting to follow in those lists.
On the side of a users profile is also several Twitter accounts that you may wish to follow suggested by Twitter.
Another good place to start, is to search for and follow Nursing and Health associations, experts within the field, and your own personal colleagues.
Give it a try: The profile for HealthITNews was used for the interactive image above. Sign into your Twitter account, search for HealthITNews, and follow them (feel free to use the interactive image to help you navigate Twitter)
If you havent already done so, follow 10 or more Nursing/Healthcare Twitter Users.
Twitter Hashtags
Now that you are following 10 or more health-related Twitter users, lets try searching for # (hashtags).
Give it a try: Search for #HITsm on Twitter. What are some of the most current topics being discussed?
Find another interesting/relevant # chat or thread on Twitter. Feel free to use the following site for suggestions: https://www.symplur.com/healthcare-hashtags/ (Links to an external site.)
Now, its your turn to jump in on the conversation
Respond to one of the posts within the #HITsm or another # discussion.
To do so, select the chat icon at the bottom of the post you wish to respond to, and type your reply. Click the Reply button to post your response.

They are currently discussing patient access to medical records and the security issues that they pose. We have covered the importance of patients having accessibility to their health records as a way to take control of their health. This type of accessibility does pose security issues as the sites contain sensitive information that must have the appropriate security measures in place.
Did you come across any interesting discussions during your hashtag search? Which discussion did you respond to?
#Handwashing was very informative and provided tips on how to stay healthy and prevent illness.
#coronavirusoutbreak provided much discussion regarding the use of masks. I commented on the importance of wearing a mask regardless of age.
What are your overall impressions of Twitter? Will you continue to use it for your own research, professional networking, education?
I honestly feel like Twitter is another Facebook. I will occasionally use it but will continue to use the web to do my research. As far as networking I will definitely use it to learn more and take advantage of the free webinars.
