WRITE A RESPONSE TO THE FOLLOWING POST:
A culture of continuous improvement does promote succession planning. Health care organizations are given the opportunity to improve patient outcomes and public health through leadership in sustainability and environmental stewardship (Mello, 2019). To work toward sustainability, organizations can start to develop a culture of continuous improvement by knowing key internal candidates and what qualifications for future service they possess (Best practices in succession planning, 2018).
The goal is to have multilayer successional planning and talent development to ensure a pipeline of potential future leaders (Best practices in succession planning, 2018). Managers need to have guidance and a common practice for discussing employee performance, which includes individual strengths, development needs, and career potential (Best practices in succession planning, 2018). This can then lead to repeated assessments of potential. Talent-pool management should also be a priority throughout the organization to develop future leaders, decrease loss of key talent, and match openings with the needs and performance of high-potential candidates (Best practices in succession planning, 2018).
Talent management must understand the importance of succession planning for a culture of continuous improvement in health care leaders. Through performance assessments, active involvement of senior management, and ongoing dialogue with potential future leaders, a culture of continuous improvement is developed to ensure the continuity of goals and values within an organization (Best practices in succession planning, 2018; Cappelli & Tavis, 2018). As a result, the continuous improvement promotes succession planning.
