What kinds of research questions lead to a qualitative approach?
The kind of research questions that lead to a qualitative approach are questions that seek to understand, subjective, uses inductive logic, and produces hypotheses (Yegidis & Weinbach, 2018, p. 102)
How might you reframe the research question in a way that lends itself to a qualitative approach?
To reframe the research question that lends itself to a qualitative approach is to address questions about how individuals understand the meaning and set the stage for open-ended analysis while using open-minded perspective (p. 126).
Describe the qualitative research question and explain the rationale for choosing a qualitative approach.
My research question used the qualitative approach as I seek to gain the understanding of how why LGBTQ couples dont seek counseling. The question: what impact does counseling have on maintaining successful relationship among LGBTQ community and how does it differ from heterosexual community? Yegidis and Weinbach (2018) suggest that researchers using the qualitative approach attempt to maintain a comprehensive viewpoint in order to develop a broad sense of the problem in its natural setting (p. 126).
Explain how you might collect the data
There are several ways to collect data using the qualitative approach. The most suitable qualitative method in answering my research question is ethnographic research. Ethnographic research can be cross-sectional and longitudinal, and it can incorporate both qualitative and quantitative methods in answering the question within the individuals social environment. (Yegidis & Weinach, 2018, p.135-136). To answer my research question of the impact of counseling on relationships and the difference between homosexual and heterosexual couples can be obtained through the ethnographic research as it seeks to understand the individuals beliefs, attitudes, values, social roles, social structures, and normalcy in their social context (Yegidis & Weinbach, 2018, p. 136).

A qualitative research question is a navigational tool that not only helps guide the researcher through the research process but also encourages the exploration into unexpected directions, the research may take. A research question that led to a mixed research method and questions that leads to the enactment of federal laws, new programs that meet an individuals needs and regulations. With the growing number of qualitative evaluation studies in the social work literature, one important question that should be asked is whether the qualitative evaluation studies paint an optimistic picture of social work intervention as effective. Does the question analyze whether there are criteria that can be used to evaluate the related studies and include internal reliability (i.e., whether different researchers within the same study agree with each other), external reliability (i.e., whether independent researchers would identify the same things in the same or similar setting), internal validity (i.e., whether the observations can really reflect the reality), and external validity (i.e., whether the phenomena identified could be applicable across groups) (Shek, Tang, & Hang, 2005)
If I chose to conduct qualitative research in my week 4 proposal how might I reframe the research question in a way that lends itself to a qualitative approach?
I would develop the question to include a variety of data collections techniques to help accomplish the goals of the research. The technique used in this approach includes; having an in-person interview, focus groups, and key informant interviews, systematic observations, secondary data, and a client log (Yegidis, Weinbach, & Myers, 2018).
I focused on a qualitative proposal in Week 4, describe the qualitative research question and explain the rationale for choosing a qualitative approach.
For week 4 I did focus on a qualitative research proposal; my research question was how did the lack of communicating in a couple’s relationship could lead to couples counseling? I chose the qualitative approach because it seeks to understand the meaning, experiences, and understanding of the question.
The research question could change over the course of the study, and the question was also general and worded vaguely.
How data would be collected?
Data would be collected through participatory action research, focus groups and semistructured interviews were used for data collection. Data from semistructured interviews (in which interviewers ask specific questions to focus the interview but responses are open-ended) complement information gained through focus groups by providing in-depth individual accounts of people’s experiences, and the results from findings (Crandall, Senturia, Sullivan, & Shiu-Thornton, 2005).
