The image below was taken by photojournalist Kevin Carter in 1993. After taking the picture, as directed by the ruling government officials, he left the scene without doing anything for the child. He subsequently won a Pulitzer Prize for the photo. Many have speculated that, haunted by the horrific images from Sudan, Carter committed suicide in 1994 soon after receiving the award.
