Understanding the work of others is critically important to new work. Contributions to the nursing body of knowledge can happen when you are able to analyze and articulate the efforts of previous research. Research analysis skills are therefore critical tools for your toolbox.
In this Assignment, you will locate relevant existing research. You also will analyze this research using a tool helpful for analysis.
To Prepare:
Reflect on the strategies presented in the Resources this Module’s Learning Resources in support of locating and analyzing research.
Use the Walden Library to identify and read one peer-reviewed research article focused on a topic in your specialty field that interests you.
Review the article you selected and reflect on the professional practice use of theories/concepts described by the article.
The Assignment:
Using the “Module 4 | Part 4” section of your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan Template presented in the Resources, conduct an analysis of the elements of the research article you identified. Be sure to include the following:
Your topic of interest.
A correctly formatted APA citation of the article you selected, along with link or search details.
Identify a professional practice use of the theories/concepts presented in the article.
Analysis of the article using the “Research Analysis Matrix” section of the template
Write a 1-paragraph justification stating whether you would recommend this article to inform professional practice.
Write a 2- to 3-paragraph summary that you will add to your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan that includes the following:
Describe your approach to identifying and analyzing peer-reviewed research.
Identify at least two strategies that you would use that you found to be effective in finding peer-reviewed research.
Identify at least one resource you intend to use in the future to find peer-reviewed research.

Mental health has always proven to be a very delicate part of healthcare. Many because of the stigma connected to mental health in our society suffer in the silent of the several diseases while so many are denied care from the insurance companies. So many patients, even in an emergency, are not able to find the care they need due to the lack of trained providers in this area of healthcare. According to (Delaney, et al., 2017) the training of psychiatric nurse practitioners today in assessment, treatment and evaluation in various settings such as inpatient, outpatient, and home care setting are all relevant in care delivery to patients in need of it across the care continuum.
Walden University Library Databases is packed with peer-reviewed and academic journals that provide evidence-based practice primarily in the nursing profession and its many branches. I used the Walden library system to search the Medline database for my article. However, there are some difficulties associated with searching and locating a journal from the Medline database. The major challenge I noted was that it is easier to be particular, precise, and clear when searching, to get the most related journal close to the topic one is looking for. Making your search creative certainly does help. According to (Tahamtan & Bornmann, 2018). “creative ideas are the result of finding solutions to practical problems, result from discussions with colleagues, and profit from the interdisciplinary exchange.” I started by typing a whole sentence, which gave me a no resource found result, then I looked closely at my topic and was able to sort out the major words needed for the search. I got results but also found out that most of the journals were above 5yrs of age, so I had to narrow down the age of the article on the left-hand side of the library. This helped narrow down the result of my search to exactly what I needed.
This database is very useful for every nursing student because it offers evidence-based and academic journals that we need to back up our ideas and practices as nurses. Evidence-based practice (EBP) is imperative for ensuring patient safety because it enhances nursing knowledge and practice (Horntvedt, Nordsteien, Fermann, & Severinsson, 2018). I definitely will recommend I would recommend this database to my colleagues and other students because it provides a variety of peer-reviewed and scholarly journal articles that are useful in research. Therefore, the resources from this database provide research literature that offers ideas, explore concepts, guide, and gain new insights.
