Thanks again for sharing your research proposal with us. We have evaluated it and it is clear that serious efforts were invested in the proposal. The proposal is well written and academic references are cited. Although corporate governance and corporate finance are interesting and relevant domains, there are a few serious concerns with the proposed research with regard to a xxx PhD.
At xxx the standard to obtain a PhD degree is to provide a thesis with at least three publishable papers (in a peer-reviewed academic journal with an impact factor of at least 0.7). With your current research questions, we feel that attaining these requirements will be very difficult.
First, although a literature review can be used to write a publishable academic paper, we know that it is very hard to do so. Multiple previous PhD candidates have tried and failed to deliver the required quality level of such a paper. A high level off insight is needed to be able to develop and interesting paper with a sufficient contribution. Three papers based on “just” a literature review would most likely be insufficient.
Second, one key aspect determining the publishably of a paper is the theoretical contribution. Providing answers on the taxonomic, major contributions, three least discussed topics, and the subject need addressing in future research (as your four research questions) might be what is needed to provide as a starting point of (one of your) research projects.
To summarize both the research method (literature review) and the research questions seem to be insufficient to develop a PhD thesis out of it. As such we would recommend to develop more empirical research questions which aim to make theoretical contributions to the field of finance. I have attached one more example of a research proposal (what we expect to have at the end of year one).
