M6A1: PowerPoint Presentation: American National Security and “Full Spectrum Operations”
38803M6A1: PowerPoint Presentation: American National Security and “Full Spectrum Operations”
In this module we have explored the power and limitations of military force in the 21st century as revealed in operational experience in Iraq and elsewhere. In this activity, you will provide an analysis of the potential strengths and weaknesses of America in future global conflict and you will create a PowerPoint presentation with voice over which you will share with your colleagues showcasing your assessment of the U.S. national security posture in the global environment. Please limit your presentation to 20 slides and include speaker notes. Your presentation should be visually appealing and interesting so that your colleagues can stay engaged without missing important information regarding the material you are presenting. You will submit the PPT through a drop box for your instructor to assess. You will also submit your PowerPoint via a discussion board link to share with your peers.
When you have completed this activity, you will be able to:
• Assess the U.S. national security posture in the context of contemporary global conflict (CO#1 and CO#5).
• Discuss the ethical implications of full spectrum operations in the global environment (CO#4)
Issues to address in your PowerPoint presentation:
• General Peter Chiarelli, reporting from Iraq in 2007 observed that a fundamental challenge to American security in this century is “preparing our military and other elements of national power” to conduct full spectrum operations against perceptive and committed enemies.
• In your analysis, what are the most significant obstacles to achieving Chiarelli’s objective?
• What are the most vital resources that must be deployed to reach this goal?
In your presentation, also be sure to address:
• ethical issues surrounding your topic;
• the 21st Century global security structure and America’s strategic posture in this environment relevant to your topic and context; and
• construct your argument using appropriate interdisciplinary topics in national security relating to your topic (e.g. history, political science, psychology, economics, military leadership, cybersecurity, intelligence, international relations, etc.)
Guidelines to create a voice-over for your presentation:
• After you have created your PowerPoint presentation, you should then record your audio/voice over. Write a script for your oral presentation that is between 4 and 5 minutes in length. Remember, if it is on the slide, you have to talk about it.
• Next, you can record the audio (from the script) to your PowerPoint presentation.
• Make sure that your audio is embedded in your PowerPoint presentation, so that when your instructor clicks through each slide of your presentation, they will hear the accompanying audio. This project should not be submitted as two separate files.
