Question #1:
What are your thoughts on filter bubbles? Have you ever encountered a Filter Bubble? Do you think companies like Facebook and Google have a civic responsibility in this area?
I think that people should be cautious and try to always keep in mind of filter bubbles. Filter bubbles are almost relatable to spyware. With filter bubbles and algorithms tracking your searched material and manipulating what the internet and social media is advertisings/allowing you to view seems a bit creepy and can feel like violation of privacy to a certain extent. I absolutely think that companies such as Facebook and Google have a civic responsibility to this area because they can lose trust and use from their customers and users. As stated before, people have a right to privacy and unbiases to some extent. Not monitoring filter bubble activity or correcting algorithms to be unbars can be dangerous in instances such as persuasion in elections and voting outcomes and also third-parties that may be able to have access to your information. It can be very bias and as the video for the week says, it can lead to uneducated conversations because of what material that is shown to you, but different material that is shown to others that you had no clue existed because it’s one sided.
