DQ 7.1.5 FIRST IMPRESSIONS
An introduction can either pull your audience in or push them away. In a proposal the loss of your audience’s attention can mean your potential solution to a problem will never see fruition. Use the following guide and write an introduction to your proposal:
Give a great first impression!
Length: 5-10 sentences
Identify your topic
Get the audience interested
Provide a historical perspective or some background information
Provide some kind of rhetorical tool to attract your audience’s attention (attention grabber)
Propose a problem or dilemma
Define a concept relevant to your topic
End with the thesis statement
I’ve included as an attachment to this post a list of rhetorical devices. Consider the options listed. Which one or ones might help you better engage your audience in the introduction and which ones might you use elsewhere in your paper? Explain.
Support your response.
