DQ1 (order#38574):
Re:Topic 1 DQ 1
In the article by Newman (2018), the two forms of an argument that is, the expressed and implied arguments, are illustrated. The expressed argument is that the development of a simple information-based model on cybersecurity threats, attacks and occurrences in public and private sectors is the fundamental method of facing the developing issue of cybersecurity in US. The author quotes different events of cases where the availability of information would have prevented various forms of cyber-attacks on the organizations such as Sears and Kmart, Best Buy, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Lord & Taylor, and Delta Air Lines (Newman, 2018). The implied argument on the other hand is that the development of complex legal and legislative regulations is not the ultimate solution to solving the cybersecurity issue in the country. The understanding of the expressed and implied arguments is essential as it facilitates the development of comprehensive ability to analyze different information and being able to assess the meaning of the information (Díaz Hormazábal, 2007; Perneger, 2004). The concepts of implied and expressed arguments will be fundamental in my first essay as I will use them to develop my ideas on the topic presenting information in multiple perspectives (Smith, n.d). Through applying both concepts, I will be able to develop a direct idea and develop it using supportive arguments.

***QUESTIONS TO BE ANSWERED BELOW***
Class,
Seeing writing as an exchange of ideas means seeing all new theories, ideas, and beliefs as grounded in pre-existing knowledge. Therefore, when beginning a new writing project, writers never work “from scratch.” Instead, they tap into the resources of their community for ideas, inspiration, and research leads. Keeping these statements in mind, and based on one of the media you provided for DQ1, answer the following questions.
Consider a topic for a research paper. What did you decide on?
What do you know about your topic before you begin to write?
Where did this knowledge come from? Be sure to include both secondary sources (books, websites, etc.) and primary ones (people, events, personal memories). Is this knowledge socially created? What communities or groups or people created it, how, and why?
What parts of your current knowledge about your subject could be called “fact” and what parts could be called “opinion?” How does this idea apply to implied and expressed argumentation?
How can your current knowledge about the topic help you in planning and conducting the research for the project?
