our client/patient schedules a prenatal consultation to discuss possible risks for low milk supply due to breast reduction surgery that occurred 8 years ago. This is the parent’s 2nd child. The parent produced about 50% of the milk that her first child needed and she breastfed for 6 months. This child is now 2 years old. The parent has experienced breast growth during pregnancy and her areolas have gotten darker. She is 34 weeks pregnant. Create a plan of care discussing what this parent can do prenatally, as well as during the first 2 weeks after the baby is born to increase her chances of a fuller milk supply. Include parameters for supplementation. Week 11 Plan of Care Plan of Care should address the following: Prenatal visit: Client education on impact of breast reduction surgery on milk production Anticipatory guidance on milk production Prenatal plan for increasing milk production Anticipatory guidance on infant feeding Follow up Postpartum visit: Infant feeding recommendations Pumping recommendations Supplementation: when it is needed, what type of milk is given, volume needed, how to give to infant? When and to whom to refer if necessary Follow up
