1) Your choice of how you want your remains to be handled. Do you want to be cremated or buried?
a) If you choose cremation, you must decide where you want your ashes to be kept or distributed.
Do you want your ashes spread at a particular location (is it legal at that location), do you want your ashes interred at a cemetery, kept in an urn (and who gets the urn or will your ashes be divided and given to multiple people)? Is there still the cost of a casket with cremation?
b) If you choose to be buried, what kind of casket will you have and how much will it cost?
2) If you are being cremated, how much will it cost and who will handle the cremation? If you are having your ashes interred, what is the cost of interment? If you are being buried, where will you be buried and what is the cost? What is the cost of transporting your casket from the funeral home to the cemetery? What is the cost of burial at the cemetery (separate from the cost of the burial plot)?
3) What type of funeral service will you have? Will it include a wake? Will it follow any cultural or religious traditions and/or customs? What are the costs associated (ie, cost of a one day versus two day wake)? What is the cost of prayer cards or other items at the funeral?
4) Do you plan to have flowers at your funeral or expect others will send them? What will a large funeral spray of flowers cost your family members?
5) If you are being buried, will your family require a limo to the cemetery from the funeral home? How many limousines and what is the cost?
6) Who will say your eulogy? Write your own eulogy describing your life.
7) Give the total cost of your funeral including all of the above costs. Dont forget to include the cost to your family members to eat out or bring in food after your service (or between wake times) if applicable.
