chose in that previous assignment, describe

any two (2) economic, social, psychological,

political, environmental, or cultural barriers

that get in the way of achieving the goal of

implementing this health effort, based on

what you learned from your readings and/or

what you’ve observed in your life (i.e., what

two things get in the way of

promoting healthy childhoods, creating

healthier neighborhoods, supporting

healthy living, OR increasing access to

quality care?).

Examples of barriers that you may want to

research may include obesity, maternal

mortality, infant mortality, diabetes, sexual

abuse, HIVIAIDS, STIs, interpersonal/domestic

violence, suicide, hypertension, air pollution,

noise pollution, childhood injuries,

asthma. bioterrorism. unwanted preanancies.

lead poisoning, lack of recycling, and lack of

food safety, among others.

2) Think of the communities of people that

need the most help to overcome the barriers

you described above. Which specific

community do you want to focus

on? Explain why you chose this

community.

(Communities can be defined by many different

factors, such as race. ethnicity, age, gender,

income level, religion, educational level, sexual

identity, marital status, geography, and many

others. Examples of communities in NYC you

may want to focus on may include, African-

Americans, Latino-Americans, members of the

LGBTQ|+ communities, pregnant women,

residents of Brooklyn, people living below the

poverty line, among many other types of

communities.)

Keep in mind that the community you describe

here may end up changing as you conduct your

research throughout the semester. (For

example, you may find so much information

on African-Americans, that you may decide to

be more specific and focus your work

on African-American women because they

experience the health disparity more than other

communities.)
