Journal 1: Harry Potter Phenomenon

In this assignment, students will learn how to identify and analyze at least 3 issues that are relevant to the book series and films. Use the class discussion notes and valid research to support your analysis.

• What is your opinion? Should Harry Potter be discussed in academia?

• What are some of the issues and controversies the book series sparked?

• How do the films support or deter from the book series?

• What are the issues relevant to consumer culture and Harry Potter?

• What are some of your expectations or concerns with reading this series?

Students will create and compose a Spark page and use effective communication skills in a response of 350-500 words. The page should be multi-modal and dynamic. This means the Spark page must include pictures, videos, and text that relate to the issues you are analyzing.

• To receive full credit (an ‘A’) students must:

• meet the deadline and complete the assignment

• insert images or videos that connect with the text

• 350-word minimum (suggestion–draft in MS Word or Google Docs and copy and paste)

• cite sources for concepts, ideas, or words that are not yours

• identify the 3 issues

• have a clear analysis (studying the nature of something or of determining its essential features and their relations (dictionary.com)) of both issues (not a summary)

• Writing must be free of grammar errors.
