Choose ONE of the following essays and in a well-written essay of approximately 750 words discuss the prompt. You may also want to do research although this is not necessary. If you borrow material from sources, make sure that you properly document it in the essay. DO NOT PLAGIARIZE. We will briefly talk about the stories in class on this evening. The essay is due on June 28^th.

1.     Read The A&P by John Updike in the text.  The story contains many details about a cashier in a supermarket in a beach town in Massachusetts. Many consider Sammy, the main character as rash and judgmental.  How do you read him? What is accurate that is in his mind? What may not be? What motivates him to quit his job? What is the result? Be specific.

2.     Read A Worn Path by Eudora Welty in the text. The story is symbolic and the symbols touch on the major themes: race, class, perseverance, power, and love, among others. It tells the story of a journey, another motif. Explain how some of these things work together to give the reader a portrait of this old woman, her strengths and her weaknesses. Be specific.

JUST CHOOSE THE ONE THAT IS BEST AND EASIER FOR YOU, AT LEAST 750 WORDS. THANKS!!!
