journalists and artists

This week we are going to focus on the work of journalists and artists: how they make sense of the violence around them and the challenges they face while doing so. For instance, the following artists have adopted into their paintings violent themes in order to represent the reality they see every day. Click their names to see a few samples of their work.

Fernando Botero (Colombia)
Lenin Marquez (Mexico)
Gilda Lorena Martinez (Mexico)
Ricardo Delgado Herbert (Mexico)
We are also going to read Down the Rabbit Hole: A Novel by Juan Pablo Villalobos. In this novel, we will explore the life of a drug lord through the innocent eyes of his son, Tochtli.

Additionally, we will start watching Narcos Mexico (Season 1), a series that depicts the beginnings of the Guadalajara Cartel and the transformation of Miguel ngel Flix Gallardo into one of the most powerful and feared narcos in all Mexico.
