Meaningful Compensation
Meaningful compensation is a term that in the case of organ donation is used to refer to the act of the organ recipient being able to provide the donor with a given amount of money as a form of appreciating (Friedman, 2006). The recipient of the organ is thus not obliged to provide a given amount of cash at all but the monetary compensation is perceived as a means of facilitating the concept of organ donation without involving money valuations (Ritter, 2008). Other significant terms that have been raised in the paper which do not match meaningful compensation include monetary incentive, exploitative and criminalized (Ritter, 2008). These terms are closely related to the general concept of organ donations can be used in multiple circumstances to bring out different meaning depending on the environment they are used in.
