Background ICU Nurse working towards nurse practitioner DNP to FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner)
Pender’s model, first defined by Nola J. Pender, frames good health not as the absence of disease but as a positive state of physical being. Therefore, promoting health encompasses increasing this state of well-being. Pender’s model emphasizes the patient’s interaction with a multifaceted environment as a core determinant of well-being.
In this discussion, you will consider how Pender’s model could have affected a patient situation you have faced in the past.
Identify a potential health management problem you anticipate encountering in your future APRN Practice and share that with your peers.
1. Describe a potential health promotion issue that you expect to encounter in your specific patient population as an APRN. What is the specific problem and why is it a barrier to health promotion?
2. Focusing on the assumption of Healthcare Professionals (APRNs) being part of the interpersonal environment and exerting influence on patients through the lifespan, choose 3/14 theoretical statements and discuss 1–2 interventions for each theoretical statement you could use to help decrease the patient’s barrier to being in a state of health. (If your patient population is neonates, children with special needs, or adults with cognitive disabilities/issues, then focus on the family caregivers).
