In lieu of a written final exam, students will be required to prepare a paper of 15-20 pages in length that outlines an innovation strategy for a business or other organization you are familiar with. This can involve challenges such as developing: a new R&D capability, a new product line direction, an e-business plan, a technology infrastructure improvement, a new software capability, a business process re-design, or a customer interface innovation. The subject company can be your employer, one for whom you are a knowledgeable customer, or some other organization where you have some special familiarity (such as the NJCU School of Business MBA Program). You should take the perspective of a manager or outside consultant who has been given a special assignment by the CEO. He or she is fearful of falling behind the competition and has asked you to think creatively about an innovation strategy. You must propose a course of action to address the challenge, including an implementation plan, estimated costs, likely returns and an approximate timetable. The paper should outline a plan of action you would strongly recommend in a form you would be proud to submit to the CEO.
