As you learned in the module resources, Adobe XD is design software used to develop high-fidelity wireframes, mock-ups, and prototypes that can effectively communicate design visions. In this activity, you will apply what you learned about this tool’s basic purpose and functionality to create three mock-ups for a fictional client.
Scenario
You are a designer at User CentriX Services. The growing passenger railroad company Horizon Railways has requested your firm’s design services. They are transitioning from a paper ticketing system to digital tickets, which will be accessible via a digital wallet app for smartphone users. Horizon Railways is asking for three digital ticket design options for their team to consider.
The provided client brief outlines two user personas and a list of requested elements. Logos and branding are not included and do not need to be in the digital ticket designs. Note that the client is asking to enhance the ticket experience for their users by adding two new elements to the digital tickets. First, they want to include a visualization of where the passenger’s seat is on the train (as finding their seats was the biggest customer complaint about the current experience). Second, they want to include new information about their trains’ Wi-Fi access.
Directions
Your task is to use Adobe XD to create three new digital ticket design options for your client. Then, you will reflect upon your experience using Adobe XD. See the Supporting Materials section to review the client brief, which includes user personas, a list of required elements, and an image of the existing ticket.
Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:
Part 1: Digital Ticket Designs: Create three digital ticket designs using Adobe XD for the client.
Include all the requested elements in the client brief. Those include:
All the details from the original ticket
Utilizing the requested dimensions
Address the needs of the users in the provided personas by adding the requested new elements:
A visualization of where the passenger’s seat is on the train
Indication of Wi-Fi
Demonstrate at least three of the following Adobe XD functions in your three digital ticket designs (see the videos in the Module Resources for more information):
Drawing and editing graphics
Adding fonts and text
Adding color and gradients
Using and reusing symbols
Using repeat grids
Part 2: Reflection
In a separate Microsoft Word document, reflect on your experience with using Adobe XD. Consider the following:
How did you find using the software? How does it compare to other design tools, such as Illustrator and Photoshop?
What features made designing for user experience easier in Adobe XD than if you had used a different tool?
If you have any questions or concerns with Adobe XD, identify those so your instructor can provide feedback and support.
