Topic 3 DQ 2
Two major models of care exist, for-profit and not-for-profit? Does one or the other provide more ethical care? Why or why not?
SAMPLE ANSWER
The ethics of for-profit and not-for-profit
Introduction
Businesses can be for-profit or not-for-profit. For-profit businesses make money by selling goods and services and charging a fee for them. Not-for-profit organizations do not charge fees for the use of their services or goods, but they must raise funds in other ways (such as donations). There are many ethical dilemmas involved with running a business that has been established as either an organization that is supposed to serve its customers’ needs or one that exists exclusively on paper with no actual employees or facilities.
I. Definition
A for-profit organization is an entity that is designed to generate a profit. For example, a company that sells products or services and makes money on those sales.
A not-for-profit organization is an entity that is not designed to generate a profit. For example, an educational institution or religious group that exists only to provide education or religious services without any expectation of financial compensation from the public it serves.
II. Importance
Ethical principles are the rules that govern our behavior and determine how we should treat others. The word “ethics” comes from the Greek word ethos, which means “manner of life.” Ethical principles are guidelines for making decisions about our lives and actions based on what is right or wrong in an ethical sense.
Ethical principles can be applied to any kind of business transaction or interaction with customers or employees, including those who work at a charity organization as well as those who work inside a corporation itself (e.g., sales reps). In order for businesses to operate within legal boundaries, their employees must adhere to certain ethical standards when interacting with clients; likewise, businesses must also adhere to these same standards when dealing with suppliers so they do not violate any laws related specifically towards this field either nationally or internationally (in other words: if someone doesn’t follow these rules then they could lose money).
III. Ethical principle of for-profit organizations
For-profit organizations should not be concerned with the ethical principle of not-for-profit organizations. They should be concerned with the ethical principle of for-profit organizations.
IV. Ethical principle of not-for-profit organizations
-
Not-for-profit organizations must work to serve the public good.
-
They are not allowed to make a profit for their owners.
-
They must be accountable to their stakeholders and other stakeholders like governments, donors and funders, employees, clients or members etc., who support them financially or otherwise in some way (such as by volunteering services). This accountability may include: transparency about financials; regular reporting on progress towards goals; open access via internet where possible; community engagement with local communities providing benefits such as education about issues affecting society at large.”
V. Conclusion
The research presented in this article is not a comprehensive one. It is intended to serve as a starting point for further inquiry into the topic, and to provide some initial insight into how these issues might be addressed in the future. As such, it should be understood that any conclusions drawn from this work are tentative and subject to change based on further investigation of similar situations or other relevant contexts.
Although there are many ways that nonprofits can benefit society through their work (for example: providing disaster relief), many also exist outside of this framework and do not fit neatly into our current framework for thinking about them as “good” or “bad” entities; instead they may require more explicit consideration before being labeled as either beneficial or harmful. In order to develop more nuanced understandings of what exactly constitutes good nonprofit activity—and therefore effective philanthropy—we must examine these organizations from different perspectives than those we currently use today: both inside-out (i) & outside-in (ii).
Takeaway:
The takeaway here is that for-profit and not-for-profit organizations have different ethical principles. A for-profit organization has a responsibility to its shareholders, while a not-for-profit organization has a responsibility to society as a whole.
This is why it’s important for companies like Facebook and Google to make sure they’re operating within their legal boundaries when developing new products or services that could potentially be harmful; otherwise, there could be consequences down the road if these technologies don’t work out as planned (or worse yet—lead to an epidemic).
Conclusion
It is important for us to understand the ethical principles of both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. In order to do this, we must first define what these terms mean, before moving on to discuss their importance in our society today. Ethically speaking, there are two different types of organizations that can be classified as either “profit” or “non-profit”: those who wish to earn money (i.e., for-profits) versus those who choose service over profit (i.e., not-forprofits). Even though these two categories may seem similar at first glance, they have some key differences that make each one unique from one another: For example, while both types may share similar goals such as providing food security among others underneath them but still differ greatly when it comes down to how they accomplish these objectives since profit driven businesses offer more opportunities than charitable organizations do.
