Disease-oriented health care system
NRS 440VN Week 1 Topic 1 DQ 2
What is the role of health care reform in shifting the focus from a disease-oriented health care system toward one of wellness and prevention, and how does nursing fit into this shift?
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Disease-oriented health care system
Introduction
The disease-oriented health care system is a model of health care in which diseases are treated as the primary cause of illness and death. This model has been in place for many years, but it’s changing as research shows that there are other causes of disease.
Wait time
You may be familiar with the phrase “waiting for a doctor’s appointment,” but did you know that it takes an average of 30 days to get an appointment? In addition to waiting for a specific time, there is also often another wait period before your first visit. This means that if you have a problem that requires immediate attention—like an emergency or an urgent surgery—your doctor will not be able to see you at all until this final step has been completed.
Once in front of the doctor’s desk, patients are typically expected to wait several minutes before being seen by another provider who may have different expertise or qualifications than their primary care physician (PCP). Often times these visits can take over an hour due to long waits alone; they also often involve multiple people on staff who need time out of their offices while they take care of other patients’ needs before finally getting around to yours!
High Cost
The cost of healthcare is rising. In fact, it’s getting harder and harder for many people to afford their medical bills.
The government’s inability to keep up with the rising costs is also a problem for them and us as well. If this trend continues, we may end up paying more taxes or having less money left over after taxes every month because our wages aren’t going far enough in terms of covering our monthly expenses like rent or food (which would mean more mouths needing food).
The economy suffers because people who can’t afford health insurance can’t work anymore; they’re forced into unemployment due to their inability to pay these bills off quickly enough without losing all their savings through garnishing wages or other methods like credit card companies charging interest rates based on late payments made toward debt owed when purchasing things like cars and houses.”
Inefficiency
The current health care system is inefficient, cost-ineffective and not patient-centered. It is reactive.
It takes a long time to get the right treatment for you or your loved ones in this system. You may have to go through many steps before getting an appointment with a doctor or specialist if you are sick or injured.
Preventive care
-
Preventive health care is a pivotal component of any healthy lifestyle.
-
Examples include:
-
Making sure you get enough sleep
-
Regularly visiting your dentist or doctor for check-ups and routine exams to prevent disease, such as cancer or heart disease. If you’re over 60 years old, it’s especially important that you see the doctor regularly.
Takeaway:
The takeaway is that a disease-oriented health care system is one that focuses on treating diseases, rather than promoting wellness and preventing illness. This can lead to a misallocation of resources, as well as an increased risk of harm in the form of unnecessary medical treatments and procedures. In addition, it may result in suboptimal outcomes for patients who do not respond well to their treatment plan or have adverse effects because they were not properly informed about their condition beforehand.
Conclusion
With all of these risks, is it really worth it? Shouldn’t we be focused on preventing disease instead of treating it? The answer is no. We need to take care of our health and prevent disease in order for us to live long lives, but that doesn’t mean we should do away with modern medical technology altogether. It’s just important to keep an eye on how much money you spend on your medical bills each year and make sure that you are getting what you pay for when choosing who will treat your health issues next time around.”
