Describe one theory applicable to social work.
Systems theory which is the most used theory of group functioning is applicable to social work. This theory includes four functional tasks which include integration; making sure that the members fit together. Adaption ensuring that the groups change within the scope of the environment. Pattern maintenance defining their purpose, identity, and procedures. Lastly, meeting goal attainment ensuring members complete their tasks (Toseland & Rivas, 2017).
Explain the intended outcome that this theory has for group work.
The intended outcome is to make sure the members of the group accomplish all four of these tasks to be in a state of equilibrium. It is important for everyone to complete their tasks so that the group can survive. Members must agree that the goals that were put in place are in fact attainable (Toseland & Rivas, 2017). The leader and its members must overcome the obstacles together to be gratified on their success of reaching their goals.
