You have recently began as the new HIM Operations Manager of Moraine Park Medical Center (MPMC). While getting acclimated to the record completion area, you review the medical record delinquency statistics and are alarmed to see that delinquency rate is 65%. This is concerning since TJC requires that records be completed within 30 days of patient discharge and the record delinquency rate should not exceed 50% of the inpatient discharges for a period. In an effort to understand the issue, you review the record completion policy and procedure and discover that physicians receive a record delinquency notice only after the record is not completed within 30 days of patient discharge.
MPMC is due for a Joint Commission on-site survey in the next 12 months. The delinquent record issue must be address to avoid a negative survey review.
