The High Point Drug Market Intervention Program is an evidence-based anticrime program that aims to reduce drug-related crime in High Point, North Carolina. Descriptive statistics are essential in evaluating the effectiveness of the program, providing important data for policymakers and practitioners to identify trends, areas of success or failure, and help inform the development of future efforts to combat drug markets and related crime.
Descriptive Statistics Before Implementation
To evaluate the state of drug markets in High Point prior to the implementation of the High Point Drug Market Intervention Program, several types of descriptive statistics could be used. One such statistic could be the prevalence of drug use in the area. For instance, survey data from healthcare providers, emergency rooms, and drug treatment centers can help to provide a better understanding of the extent of drug use in the area. Furthermore, statistics on the frequency and type of drug-related crimes can be collected from police records, including arrest and conviction rates, and the types of drugs involved in the crimes. Finally, demographic characteristics of those involved in drug markets, such as age, gender, race, and socioeconomic status, can provide a better understanding of the types of individuals most affected by drug markets in the area.
Descriptive Statistics After Implementation
After the implementation of the High Point Drug Market Intervention Program, changes in drug markets in High Point can be evaluated through a range of descriptive statistics. For instance, changes in the prevalence of drug use in the area can be evaluated through surveys, medical records, and drug treatment center data. Similarly, monitoring police records can help to assess changes in the frequency and type of drug-related crimes in the area as carried out in this research by Masho et al. (2016). In addition, evaluating changes in demographic characteristics of those involved in drug markets can provide a better understanding of how the program is affecting different groups in the area.
Importance of Descriptive Statistics
Descriptive statistics are an essential tool in evaluating the effectiveness of the High Point Drug Market Intervention Program. These statistics provide data to help identify trends, provide context, and identify areas of success or failure (Vito & Higgins, 2014). With the help of descriptive statistics, policymakers and practitioners can better understand the types of individuals most affected by drug markets, how the program is affecting the community, and make informed decisions about how to improve the program (National Research Council, 2005).
Biblical worldview
From a biblical worldview perspective, the issue of drug-related crime is a complex problem that is linked to the fallen nature of humanity and the effects of sin in the world. The Bible speaks about the dangers of addiction and the need to pursue a healthy and sober lifestyle. For instance, in 1 Corinthians 6:12, Paul teaches that "'I have the right to do anything,' you say–but not everything is beneficial. 'I have the right to do anything'–but I will not be mastered by anything." This verse highlights the importance of self-control and making choices that are beneficial to our well-being. Moreover, the Bible teaches that we should be concerned about the safety and well-being of our communities, and we should work to combat the harmful effects of crime and drug use. The High Point Drug Market Intervention Program is an important initiative that seeks to address the negative impact of drug-related crime on the community. By addressing the root causes of drug markets and providing support to those who want to leave the drug trade, the program reflects the biblical values of compassion, justice, and hope. Through the use of descriptive statistics, the program can evaluate its effectiveness and make data-driven decisions to improve outcomes. Overall, the High Point Drug Market Intervention Program reflects a biblical worldview that values human life, promotes justice, and seeks to make the world a safer and healthier place.
In conclusion, descriptive statistics are an essential tool for evaluating the effectiveness of the High Point Drug Market Intervention Program. The data collected before and after the implementation of the program can help to identify the root causes of drug-related crime and inform the development of targeted and effective interventions. The importance of descriptive statistics in evaluating the effectiveness of anticrime programs cannot be overstated, and their continued use will be vital in the development and implementation of future anticrime programs.

Descriptive statistics are measures of central tendency used to calculate and summarize data (Vetter, 2017). Descriptive statistics are best suited for large amounts of quantitative data. Mean, median, and mode are the most popular used descriptive statistics, while researchers can also use variance and standard deviation. The chosen prevention program used throughout this course is the Orleans Parish Drug Court Program. Prior to and after the implementation of the program, descriptive statistics will be examined. This program aims to prevent recidivism by ensuring that 75 percent or more of drug court participants graduate. Prior to program implementation, the mean will be examined. Vito and Higgins (2015) stated that the mean is the most used descriptive statistic because it provides a simple dataset average. Evaluators of this program need to understand the current state of the program. The mean graduation/fail rate is necessary prior to program implementation. Also, the mode of drug of choice will be calculated. Treatment providers assisting the Orleans Parish Drug Court Program must understand which drug offenders are frequent participants. Effective drug treatment will result in rehabilitation.
After the implementation of the program, descriptive statistics should be examined. Khorana et al. (2023) stated that measures of central tendency help identify a single value of the distribution set. Following the program's implementation, the mean and median must be examined. As previously stated, the program is designed to increase participant graduation, easing the effects of mass incarceration and recidivism. The mean of the graduation/fail rate will provide evaluators with a clearer picture of the efficacy of the program design. After program implementation, if 75 percent or more of program participants are not graduating, then the program would be considered a failure. However, additional amendments could be garnered. Also, the mode of participants who believe they are better equipped to face societal challenges after drug court is examined. The mode results will determine if practical rehabilitative steps are being taken in the Orleans Parish Drug Court Program. The goal is not simply to graduate participants but prepare them for life’s obstacles.
In 1 Kings 7:23, the Bible says, “He made the Sea of cast metal, circular in shape, measuring ten cubits from rim to rim and five cubits high. It took a line of thirty cubits to measure around it” ( New International Version, 1973/2011, 1 Kings 7:23). This Bible verse describes how statistical data represents a larger picture. Vito and Higgins (2015) stated that an evaluator must organize and make the data readable when an evaluation needs calculation. Furthermore, in 1 Corinthians 14:11, the Bible says, “If then I do not grasp the meaning of what someone is saying, I am a foreigner to the speaker, and the speaker is a foreigner to me.” This Bible verse speaks about readability and simplicity. Descriptive statistics make data more accessible by making it simple, readable, and universal so all disciplines can comprehend the data. Statistics are essential to evaluators because they can better understand how program participants are receiving program implementation. Descriptive statistics are used with small and large datasets.

Research suggests that youth gang-related violence has contributed to increased violent crime and gun violence in urban communities (McDaniel & Sayegh, 2020). Reducing the number of gun-related injuries and deaths committed by adolescent gang members has become a national priority. Law enforcement agencies have collaborated to implement gang violence reduction programs focusing on criminal behaviors and crime suppression through focused deterrence. This student-researcher has chosen a crime reduction program designed to inform known high-risk adolescent gang members that gang violence will not be condoned and will be met with severe punishment. Additionally, the program will provide youth gang members with social services to disrupt gang activity and violent crime in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. By focusing on the problematic 15 to 24-year-old gang members in disorganized neighborhoods and strategically and directly applying interventions and social service resources, it is posited that recidivism will decrease by implementing the Philadelphia Youth Gang-Related Violent Crime Reduction Program. The following paragraphs will discuss the descriptive statistics to be examined before and after the implementation of the Philadelphia Youth Gang-Related Violent Crime Reduction Program.
Descriptive statistics are used to summarize collected information by describing the relationship between variables in a sample or population (Kaur et al., 2018). Essential variables of this study include age, sex, ethnicity, years of residency, gang membership rate, gang crime rate, unemployment rate, and educational level. Furthermore, this study will address each variable's mean, standard deviation, and minimum and maximum descriptive statistics. According to Vito and Higgins (2015), the mean is one of the most essential descriptive statistical measurements that determines the average of the given set of values. These scholars further describe standard variation as the square root of the mean of the sum of all squared deviations from the mean of a distribution of scores. For example, in prior studies related to adolescent gang violence, it has been discovered that prior to any crime prevention intervention, 35% of youth gang members in the United States are African American (Lozon & Bensimon, 2017).
Scripture states, “And the Lord said to Moses, “List all the firstborn males of the people of Israel, from a month old and upward, taking the number of their names” ( English Standard Version Bible, 2001, Numbers 3:40). In this verse, Moses is ordered to take a census of the number of every firstborn male of the sons of Israel. Later in the Book of Numbers, God again commanded Moses to take a census of all twenty years old and upward. It is suggested that this statistical census was conducted concerning war preparations. Accordingly, the Bible shows how vital statistics are in making decisions based on data. Descriptive statistics, therefore, enables researchers to present data more significantly, allowing a more straightforward and more summarized interpretation of the collected data. This essay provided an examination of potential descriptive statistics that may be used to evaluate the Philadelphia Youth Gang-Related Violent Crime Reduction Program. From quantitative data, this student-researcher can use descriptive statistics such as mean and standard deviation measurements to provide vital information related to crime reduction in adolescent gang members.
