Mrs. U is 68 years old and works full-time teaching at the university with no plans for retirement in the near future. While hiking last week, she developed chest pain, fell, and was rushed to the hospital for evaluation. She was diagnosed with a myocardial infarction and fractured left tibia. After a brief hospitalization and application of a cast on her left leg, Mrs. U was sent home on a thrombolytic agent. The cardiologist recommended a healthy diet and regular follow-up visits. The orthopedist ordered a follow-up visit, physical therapy, and asked Mrs. U to come in for a follow-up visit in 2 weeks. Mrs. U is afraid to go home with crutches and a cast and is nervous about resuming any routine physical activities.
