Hello Class,
It’s my understanding that firewall technologies and the software that’s included in it’s efforts are grouped with malware prevention and detection. The standard firewall with Windows or MacOS can be adjusted, albeit to only serve forms of blocking. The disparity between a software such as Norton and firewall settings is wide. What seems to be expedient to offer as advice would be the understanding that more is needed with the defaulted option. If a bad actor were to infiltrate a personal network undected, that would be the same point in which the standard settings of the firewall failed. And perhaps an adjust of these settings wouldn’t have made a difference. This is all presupposed on the idea that stastically, people will continue to open malware in emails or a zero-day attack succeeds (Norton, 2020). The advice would give the user visibility into what was possibly blocked or the impact/risk of certain threats. I personally subscribe to a company for personal security and find the expanded settings for firewall activity are not just interesting but simple. The further understanding of a firewall would include the kinds of threats that may bypass and remain covert. It’s also an update where new patches of software will amount to further differences in firewall security. As a priority though, it would be most important to have firewall security considered as the first line of a networks defense. Without it, passwords and various scanners would be rendered inadequate.

A firewall is like a shield or barrier against threats, malwares with the intent of protecting your personal PC, tablet, or phone. The firewall monitors data exchanges between client PCs, servers and even routers based on predetermined security rules, by monitoring and controlling incoming and outgoing network traffic.
How would I recommend Firewall?
1. First and foremost, I would their attention to their online activities, shopping, social media, banking app and other online sites mostly visited. It could be breached, and an attacker could be somewhere remotely having access to their computer and data. But with a firewall, remote desktop access can be disabled, enhance preventing an attacker from taking control.
2. Online gaming which is very popular among teens and adults these days can also be a potential security risk because of malwares that targets online gamers or existing on unsecured games servers. So as a online gamer, I would attempt persuade them to enable firewall before they start playing any online game so that any attempt by hackers to use malware to get into their system would be eventually blocked.
3. For adult site users, firewalls are more capable of blocking malicious programs, ransomwares from running on the system. I’ll encourage users to apply some form of blocking found in parent control applications, some of these types of blocking are managed by the ISP (Internet Service Provider).
4. Finally on the issue of phishing, firewall is also useful in preventing such attacks. As people are the most vulnerable link in any network system, the firewall stands as the first line of defense.
