Development (Dev)- They are the ones that create the software either customers will use or employees will use. They are the ones that write the codes and design software.
Planning- They are the ones that plan when a software roll out needs to happen or when projects are needed they set the time frame and lay out of everything.
Operations- I would say is your system or network admins. They keep maintenance on servers and switches make sure things are running smoothly.

Some of the IT functions used with the corporation that I am employed with other than were listed in the examples would be parts ordering and inventory control. These functions streamlines employees ordering for parts on products that we service which is all online. The quantities available are listed, once an order is places the process is automated and the employee will receive a notice once the order has been completed. When the parts are consumed by the employee their inventory is adjusted so animmediate on hand quantity can be determined at any time. Amazon makes this process look easy but for an IT department to have all of the processes in place for this to happen is an accomplishment.
IT departments are also responsible for the proper protection and functioning of our corporate devices. I have been working remotely from my home for over ten years but there has been a recent adoption of this work at home process and I am sure the IT departments areexploding with demands with technical challenges.
We may get to this later in our course but has anyone heard of “IoT” Internet of Things? This is the future of IT where algorithms can determine when a system will fail before it fails. You might recall a commercial a while ago where the elevator service man shows up before the elevator fails because of data the company has collected. See the link below for more info on IoT.
