The Role of Inventory Inaccuracies on SCM and Collaboration, Planning, Forecasting, and Replenishing (CPFR)
I need to prepare a purpose statement for a study I want to conduct. My case study will be based on a power tool manufacturer that also repairs tools that customers send back . I know I want it to be a case study that includes quantitative analysis as well (maybe a case study-mixed method), I know I want to interview managers and possibly employees concerning inventory inaccuracies. The company is having inventory management issues. At times, they do not have enough or have to many parts needed to fix the power tools. The engineer that I spoke with said that the peak time for fixing tools is between the 36th and 39th month of the tool being launched. He is unsure why they are having inventory management issues. He listed the following possibilities: inaccurate cycle counts (cycle counts are performed daily by two people on two separate shifts), theft, not seeking the correct number for their minimal and maximum orders, and/or unreliability in replacing parts. We both agreed that this is a forecasting issues, but we are uncertain as to how to make a more accurate forecast. Furthermore, they use a warehouse management system called hijump along with a barcoding system. Based on this information I am thiking I could use maybe two years of data of the min and max ordering and cycle counts to do a regression model.
