MSN5500 Leadership & Healthcare Policy Course Description
This essential graduate-level course prepares MSN students for advanced leadership roles in complex healthcare environments. It examines leadership theories, strategic decision-making, and the development, analysis, and implementation of health policy at organizational, state, national, and global levels. Students explore the intersection of leadership, policy, economics, ethics, and advocacy to influence healthcare delivery, improve patient outcomes, and address health equity.
Emphasis is placed on the advanced practice nurse’s role as a change agent, policy advocate, and transformational leader. Topics include organizational culture, healthcare finance, regulatory environments, interprofessional collaboration, quality and safety initiatives, and strategies for navigating healthcare reform. Students will develop practical skills in policy analysis, advocacy, and leading evidence-based change.

Prerequisites: Completion of MSN5100 Advanced Pathophysiology, MSN5200 Advanced Pharmacology, MSN5300 Advanced Health Assessment, and MSN5400 Nursing Research & Evidence-Based Practice (or equivalent).
