Week 1 Part 1 Provide a brief description of a project you have been involved in, including the products, services or results created. (Everyone has participated in some type of project at work, home, school or the community.) Describe the characteristics of your project that define it as a project. (Hint: The characteristics that make this a project, defined as “unique” and “temporary.”) Next, name at least three (3) criteria your organization may consider when selecting a project? Why did you select these criteria? Does each criteria have equal consideration or does some criteria weigh more heavily? Part 2 You will begin your work toward developing a project for class by selecting a project idea. This starts by identifying a problem or opportunity in your professional practice that you can design a project to address. The problem or opportunity you identify must be of significant size and scope to support the requirements of the remaining assignments in this course and must be something that you feel comfortable defining throughout the remainder of the course. In the coming weeks you will use this project idea to develop a multi-part project plan including a statement of work, a communication plan, a work breakdown structure with a schedule, a budget, and a final project plan. The assignment must include the following: • An introduction of the problem or opportunity that your project will address; • A brief summary of your desired outcome for the project (what the project will deliver); • Identification of at least 10 stakeholders, including a description of each stakeholder’s role in the project; • A rationale/defense for your project choice as adequate for the assignments in this course; • References to at least 2 sources.
