Artificial Intelligence was in the minds of society long before it was viable in practice. Perhaps some of us remember the HAL 9000 in the 1968 science fiction film 2001: A Space Odyssey in which the character…well if you haven’t seen it, I shouldn’t give away the plot! In any event, society has been grappling with the notion of what intelligence means and how to emulate it for decades. Only recently have we been able to make meaningful strides in this endeavor and AI can provide benefits to humanity. Of course, as with any new technology, we also have to wrestle with the ways it can be used to cause harm if used improperly.

AI and its related fields Machine Learning (ML) and Data Science are quickly evolving areas of study such that, at least for the cutting-edge areas of research, it is difficult to stay current with the latest developments. To that end, it is beneficial to periodically review the latest publications on the topic. A few good online publications are MIT News , towardsdatascience and ScienceDaily . All are excellent publications that while not intended to give you a deep understanding of AI technology, they do provide interesting information about the latest developments in the field.
