Meet the Family: The Collins’ are a family of five who live in a 5 bedroom single family dwelling. Brad 40 years old with anemia, and their children: Ella 4 months old with ventricular septal defect, Sarah 8 years old with allergies and asthma, Seth 15 years old. Melanie’s 26 year old sister, Lindsey and her parents Marilyn, 69 years old with osteoarthritis and dementia and Ralph, 75 years old with Type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease also live with the Collins. The Case Analysis More than one-third of adults in America are obese (35.7%) and obesity now affects 17% of all children and adolescents in the United States (CDC, 2013). Obesity has been a continual and cross-generational problem for the Collins family. Melanie and Brad, both have BMIs > 30 and Sarah’s and Seth’s BMIs are at and above the 95 th percentile, respectively. Ralph’s BMI is 28.5.
