In Chapter 9, your textbook discusses record retention and destruction. It is very important to retain records for the full time required. How long records must be retained is according to federal and state law. For this assignment, please address the following topics. Make sure you cite your sources of information.

Do a search of the Texas Health Code and discuss the requirements for Health Record retention in the state of Texas. Include information on adult records, minor records, as well as imaging or x-ray films. Hint: There are different standards for Hospitals and Physician Offices. There are also some difference in retention for type of film.

Choose another state and see what you can find about that state’s retention requirements and how it compares to Texas.

If you were the Director of Health Information Management, what would you need to put into place to make sure record retention requirements were followed?

Using the provided example retention grid for Hospital X, determine if the following documents should be destructed.
