Why originality matters
Universities check every submission with Turnitin. Even accidental similarity can cost you grades — so build originality into your process.
The checklist
1. Take notes in your own words. Never copy-paste into your draft; summarize with the source closed.
2. Cite as you go. Add the in-text citation the moment a borrowed idea lands in your draft.
3. Quote sparingly. If more than 10% of your paper is quoted, paraphrase more.
4. Check similarity before submitting. Aim for under 15% overall similarity, excluding references.
