Disabled Performance in Canada
Course Description: This course will explore the history and culture of disabled, Mad and Deaf theatre and performance. Delving in Canada’s rich 45 year history of disabled, Deaf and Mad theatre, the course will consider intersectionality, access and interdependence as core tenets of this milieu. This course is rooted in understandings of disability justice and will touch on the intermingling of disabled activism with performance and the current push for changes in the Canadian theatre landscape for Deaf, Mad and disabled creators.
Assignment: Book Report (30%)
You will select one of the 3 course texts and write a 750-word reflection and summary of the book- highlighting key insights you gleaned (what alive for you after reading the book?) and tying it back to course content (what did this book make you think of from class discussion and content?), lectures and readings.
You do not need to use external sources, instead focus in on your reflections and questions about the book that you’ve selected. Citations are required. Use at least 5 citations for your reflections.
750 words (not included the cover page and reference page). APA format.
