My research question will be: What are the risk factors that cause the high rate of elderly suicide in South-Korea compared to Japan.

1. Describe the situation of suicide in rich countries worldwide in order to show that Korea and Japan are relative outliers;

2.accurately identify the key variables that distinguish the Korean from the Japanese case across age cohorts and in other important areas;

3. explain the differences and similarities of the responses of the two governments, much of which is down to the different types of suicide that the two countries suffer and must therefore deal with.
