The debate concerning the influence of inherited traits and abilities compared to the influence of the environment on human development has been argued for decades. Currently, most theorists don’t debate which is more important, because there is substantial evidence that both are important. But understanding nature or nurture is important to understanding children’s individual differences—and thus important for all early childhood educators to understand. For this assignment, choose one of the following assignments:

1. Why are nature and nurture important? Research twin studies and then write a paper that supports how twin studies show us the importance of both nature and nurture. Provide specific examples to support your thoughts and findings.
2. Choose a topic within childhood development that is especially relevant to you. Then, write a paper that helps you better understand that issue by understanding nature and nurture implications (i.e., use the framework of nature/nurture to better understand your topic). Provide specific examples to support your thoughts and findings.

Support your assignment with at least four recent (within the past five years) scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.
