First part of assignment 

Purpose: This assignment is designed to get you thinking about the final paper, and give me the chance to give you some feedback. 

Task: In about a paragraph, propose a large-scale process and a particular case for your final paper.

• You will be able to re-use this assignment for the proposal—so it's worth seriously working through an idea and committing to it. I'll also be able to give you better feedback.

Second part of assignment 

The requirements for the final paper are as follows:

Prompt: Choose a large-scale process and discuss how it played out in a particular case in Mexican history.

This is intentionally broad. A process might be political, social, economic, cultural, environmental, technological, or other, while a case might refer to a specific geographic region, time period, social group, etc. Consider what big ideas and particular people, places, and times most interest you.

Consider checking the bibliographies of works we've read, that may be of interest. 

Format: A 2,000-3,000 word paper in double-spaced 12-pt Times New Roman font with one-inch margins on all sides (approx. 8-12 pages).

Sources: I expect at least 6-8 external sources cited. While you may engage with course materials, you must also use sources that are external and scholarly—that is, peer-reviewed and published through traditional academic channels (books, journals, etc.). We'll discuss sources in detail for a future assignment.

Documentation: References should be formatted according to the Chicago Manual of Style, either author-date or notes-bibliography.
