The company I chose is Waste Management. This a company that worked for 5 years ago Waste Management has the following mission statement:

“Waste Management is on a mission to maximize resource value, while minimizing – and even eliminating – environmental impact so that both our economy and our environment can thrive.” (Company Profile, n.d.).

Waste Management vision statement is important because it shows where the company wants to go. The road that Waste Management has taken is in the waste removal and recycling business, so the emphasis of their vision statement is that they have the environment in mind while I’m the same breath still conducting a revenue type business. The vision statement is still relevant in today’s environment, because of climate change and global warming, we are seeing more and more changes in our environment from weather, wildlife ecosystems and so on. Companies, such as Waste Management, need to be mindful of their impact in climate change and the company’s current vision statement speaks volumes to that. I really couldn’t see improvement recommendations because Waste Management’s vision statement seems to cover value for the environment, and economic impact which are all valuable things to have in a big picture statement for a company within the waste industry.

For my post, I chose my employer, The General Insurance. Our vision statement is to make life easier. Our vision statement is important because it reflects a want that everyone has. Customers want things done an easy way. You never hear people suggest others do business where the experience was difficult. People want an easy and seamless experience, which is why our vision statement is definitely relevant in today's environment. I know that the company has also conducted many empathy interviews, with policy holders and our independent agents, in order to gather feedback and implement changes. All to make life easier. I love the vision statement, because it's simple and gets to the point. We can all agree, that when dealing with insurance companies, it's not always the easiest experience and no one enjoys dealing with their insurance company.

Making life easier is memorable and a very good strategy when separating yourself from your competitors. You want the consumer to compare the carriers, especially when they are shopping around for insurance. The General wants people to know that they make life easier for the customer.
