The U.S. and other countries are taking steps to develop domestic renewable production to address the stresses put on the energy infrastructure. This week you will choose and discuss two alternative energy sources from the readings that will further reduce our dependence on traditional fossil fuels. Describe the energy sources and how they are being used or can be used today as a viable energy source. What are the pros and cons of its use? What technological changes, if any, will further advance its progress in becoming a primary source of energy?

Looking into alternative energy sources, there are two that stand out to me. The first would be Solar Energy. Solar Power is energy from the sun that is converted into thermal or electrical energy. According to Seia (2020), “Solar energy is a very flexible energy technology: it can be built as distributed generation (located at or near the point of use) or as a central-station, utility-scale solar power plant (similar to traditional power plants).” Solar power can be used in many different, especially in residential areas in the form of Solar Panels. “Solar panels are a great way to offset energy costs, reduce the environmental impact of your home and provide a host of other benefits, such as supporting local businesses and contributing to energy independence” (Holowka, 2017). Overall, solar energy is a great benefit to the atmosphere, it produces clean energy, strictly from the sun. On the other hand, it is very costly to install. When considering everything that goes into making it functional, it could cost you a lot, but in the end save you more. Natural Gas is the second alternative energy source. Natural gas is a fossil energy source that formed deep beneath the earth's surface. Essentially natural gas may not be the cleanest alternative source of energy, but the cleanest fossil fuel energy source. I’m some places natural gas is replacing coal, gasoline, diesel fuel. Natural Gas is cost efficient to residential and manufacturing facilities. As stated early, it is one of the cleanest fossil fuels out. According to Igs (2018), “Natural gas also produces nearly a third less carbon dioxide than coal and almost half less than oil when burned.” On the other hand, the fact that it does produce smaller amounts of Carbon dioxide, doesn’t omit the fact that it’s emit it into the atmosphere in general. Carbon dioxide is an extremely poisonous gas, that too much can cause severe respiratory issues. Another disadvantage of Natural Gas is the fact of it being a non renewable energy source. Once this is gone, it cannot be produced again, since it is made up of decomposed plants and animals.
