Interview two people of different ages but of the same ethnicity.
Interview two people of different ages but of the same ethnicity. Ensure that the interviewees and you do not have the same ethnic background. For e.g. if you’re Malay, your interviewees should be either Chinese, Indian or other races but not Malay. The interview must be via video (online preferably using Zoom so that you can use Zoom’s in-built transcription feature to transcribe this interview).
One person should be between 18 and 25 years old and the other person should be between 40 and 70 years old. (Please DO NOT include the names of your interviewees’ in your paper.) You will give both interviewees the Multigroup Ethnic Identity Measure (MEIM) that we used in class and is available for download on CANVAS along with a few open-ended questions. PLEASE BE SURE TO TRANSCRIBE YOUR INTERVIEWS. Using the data that you have collected from both interviewees, please write an essay with the following sections:
Your essay should include clearly labelled following sections:
1. Brief Background of interviewees: you must provide a brief background of both your interviewees using a pseudonym; how do you know this person? What is his/her main occupation? How long have you known him/her? Specify which ethnic group they belong to and how they differ in terms of age. [20 Marks]
2. Results you got for each interviewee: Report the quantitative scores obtained by both interviewees on the MEIM. Distinguish the younger person’s views of his/her ethnic identity from the older person’s views (qualitative responses to open ended questions). [20 Marks]
3. Appraise your interview findings: in terms of the relationship between ethnic identity as measured by the Multigroup Ethnic Identity Measure and interviewees’ ages. Describe the relationship between ethnic identity and age and explain the relevance. Examine the limitations of your interview findings and conclusions. [30 Marks]
4. Learning and application: Evaluate this interviewing experience in light of your own ethnic identity. Reflect on the extent to which this interviewing experience has changed your perspective about intergroup contact. What learnings from this experience can you apply in your personal and professional life? [20 Marks]
5. Language and References: Use language that is logical, grammatically correct and makes ideas flow coherently. Support your claims with relevant examples or evidence. It is not enough to cite study guide in answering part 3 and part 4. Provide at least THREE (3) references in APA (7th edition) format from journal articles or book chapters (excluding the textbooks). Always cite credible sources of information. Blog entries, online student papers or theses, and websites like Wikipedia do not count. [10 Marks]
