Social Media Campaign -Community Collaboration & Topic Selection
Throughout this course, you will explore public, population, environmental, and global health issues. The first step of your project is to identify a relevant topic by engaging with your community. This engagement will guide your evidence-based social media campaign and promote advocacy, public health education, and scholarly communication.
Instructions
Step 1: Engage Your Community
· Use social media (preferred) or speak with at least five (5) individuals face-to-face.
· Ask for suggestions on public health concerns and why those issues matter.
· The goal is to identify a topic that would benefit from a social media campaign.
Step 2: Document the Responses
· Social media: Submit a screenshot of your post and responses (you may redact names).
· Face-to-Face: Submit a bullet-point summary for each person (e.g., Person 1, Person 2) with a brief statement of what they shared. Names are not required.
Step 3: Choose Your Topic
· Based on the input you received, select a topic for your campaign.
· Submit a brief narrative explaining your chosen topic and why it matters.
Example Prompt:
“Hi everyone! I’m a nurse/nursing student working on a project to raise awareness about public/population health issues. What are some health topics you feel need more attention? Please share your thoughts and why this issue matters to you.”

✅ Part 4: Social Media Campaign Reflection Paper
Purpose
Once you have completed your Social Media Campaign, it is time to reflect on the process. This is your personal reflection of the project. Thoughtful reflection is encouraged as you consider your development as a population health advocate and nurse leader.
Note: This reflection will be posted in the Canvas Discussion Board (not Yellowdig).
Reflection Prompts (400–600 words- 2 pages)
Use the bolded prompts below as headings to organize your reflection:
Campaign Development
Describe the origin of your campaign idea, including any personal, clinical, or community experiences that influenced your topic selection. Include a screenshot or photo of your initial brainstorming notes. How did specific feedback from peers, instructors, or community members lead to changes in your campaign design?
Demographics and Population Health Data
Define your target population and stakeholders. Use at least one local or regional data source (e.g., FL State Department of Health, County Health Rankings, hospital data) to support your analysis. Include a screenshot or citation of the data source. What patterns or surprises did you discover, and how did they influence your campaign?
Advocacy & Awareness
Explain how your campaign promotes health equity, personal responsibility, or change for a vulnerable population. Reference at least one course reading or community resource that informed your approach. Include a citation from that source. How does your campaign reflect the values of nursing advocacy?
Ethical Considerations
Describe the ethical principles that guided your messaging. Include a screenshot or excerpt from your campaign materials that demonstrates how you ensured cultural sensitivity, inclusivity, and respect. Reflect on any challenges you faced in balancing advocacy with ethical communication.
Community Response
After posting your campaign to a selected platform (e.g., Instagram, community board, classroom), summarize the responses you received. Include screenshots or direct quotes from comments or feedback. What did you learn from the community’s reaction, and how might you revise your campaign in the future?
